AC/DC’s Brian Johnson, Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider; Rowen Lawrence/ WireImageTwisted Sister‘s Dee Snider is on a mission to bring hard rock back to the Super Bowl halftime show in 2021. Snider is trying to get fans to support an online petition at Change.org lobbying to get the NFL to hire AC/DC to perform at the big game.
The heavy-metal singer posted a video message on his Instagram page making his case for the Australian rock legends to play the Super Bowl 55 halftime show, while also insisting that he has nothing against other music genres.
“[I]t’s been a very long time that a hard rock band, a real rock band has been represented at the halftime show,” Snider says in his message, which is directed to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and rapper Jay Z, whose Roc Nation agency organizes the musical performances at the football league’s events. “And I think that it’s time.”
Snider continues, “There are a lot of bands that are stadium worthy. There are a lot of bands that have tons of hits, have sold…hundreds of millions of records. But the one band that I think has such crossover appeal to so many people in all genres, pretty much everybody loves AC/DC.”
Snider also reiterates the widely reported, but unconfirmed, news that the band is planning to reunite this year for a new album and tour.
“[T]hey would bring down the house,” Dee declares. “Think about it, when that hell’s bell gets struck, they start playing ‘Thunderstruck’ and the stadium is screaming, ‘Thunder!’ Just think about it, ‘For Those About to Rock,’ ‘You Shook Me All Night Long,’…”Back in Black.” I could keep going. But people love AC/DC.”
The last hard-rock band to headline a full Super Bowl halftime show was The Who in 2010.
