Well, I must say. I don’t think I could do this. I’d have to knock myself right out to be able to cut open my stomach, and dig around inside and cut out my own appendix. But, there are doctors who have done this! Successfully. Leonid Ivanovich Rogozov and Evan O’Neill Kane, who performed self-appendectomies in 1961 and 1921, respectively. Dr. Rogozov had to perform his own surgery because he was in the Antarctic and there was nothing but snow and ice for miles. Dr. Kane wanted to know if wanted to know if this type of surgery could be performed under a local anesthetic and could be painless.
