I never thought that I could ever be so sad to see a giraffe “going on vacation”, but there I was on Friday, wishing along with millions of others that I could go to one of my favorite childhood stores one last time.
When Toys R’ Us closed its doors across America for the last time on Friday, no one was exactly shocked. The store had definitely been edged out for years by online stores, and there wasn’t really a place for a store dedicated to toys in the modern age. But, I’m sure anyone who remembers picking up the latest and greatest Legos, Barbie, or whatever noticed a bit of their childhood coming to an end.
But one anonymous donor decided to become a true MVP in Raleigh when he/she bought ONE MILLION DOLLARS worth of toys from the closing sale to donate to local kids.
There’s not much more information right now about the donor or where they are going to give the toys, but whoever it is is a definite hero in my books, and I’m glad someone was able to use a sad situation to spread the love.
