After many hints and cryptic updates that ranged from pessimistic to downright encouraging, it appears that Tool has actually started recording the band’s long-awaited new album.
On his Instagram, guitarist Adam Jones posted a video of what certainly seems to be a recording studio. In the caption, he wrote “Day 1,” and added a CD emoji.
Jones, bassist Justin Chancellor and drummer Danny Carey, have been writing the instrumentals for the album, while frontman Maynard James Keenan has been working on lyrics. In February, Keenan tweeted that he had finished lyrics and melodies for every track his band mates had sent him so far except for one. He then deleted those tweets…because nothing is ever easy with this band.
Tool’s new album, should it actually materialize, will be the follow-up 2006’s 10,000 Days.
