You know as well as I do that every good story starts with “This one time, when I was really drunk…” But this guy from West Virginia probably wasn’t laughing so much after this happened to him.
This guy was partying with his friends in Morgantown, WV and did the responsible thing by taking an Uber ride home that night. Except, eh… he didn’t necessarily go back to the campus where his friends were. He told the Uber driver to take him home. Like, HOME home. Where he’s originally from. In New Jersey. Over 300 miles away.
Homeboy blacked out in the passenger seat of the Uber on the way home. He told NJ Advance Media in a phone interview, “I just woke up, and I’m thinking, ‘Why the f— am I in the car next to some random ass dude I don’t even know?” He made it home, but he had to pay a hefty Uber fare of $1,635.93.
According to NJ.com, this is how they configured the price:
A $3.94 base fare, a $2.35 booking fee, $696.95 for distance, $115.90 for time. Things were more expensive because Bachman unintentionally ordered an UberXL, which can hold up to six passengers and is exponentially more expensive than the typical UberX. Still, it would have been just $819.14 — if not for the surge pricing, which doubled every charge except the booking fee.
I’ve made some pretty stupid impulse purchases after a night of drinking, but nothing this bad!
So did the guy have to pay for his fare? Yes, yes he did. I’m sure he even had to reimburse the poor Uber driver for the amount of tolls he went through too. Read the rest of the story from NJ.com HERE.
Oh this story is still funny… But it’s probably because I’m not the one that has to deal with it!!
