Obviously the town we live in is a prime vacation spot and the “it” city as far as attracting a crowd as a city to live in. That’s why I moved here! After a few visits, I fell in love with it and called it home a few years later. But that was over six years ago, and the number of visitors have skyrocketed since then.
A record-breaking 14.5 million tourists visited Nashville in 2017. That’s a 4.6 percent increase since 2016 where we had 13.9 visitors. (No, I didn’t do that math on my own. Thanks, Fox 17.)
The Solar Eclipse probably had a lot to do with it since we had the best view around! Fox 17 says,
“Our visitor numbers were surprisingly stronger than the 2 percent to 3 percent growth we had initially forecasted,” Butch Spyridon, president and CEO of the NCVC, said. “Our appeal as a global leisure and meetings destination continues at a high level, and we can’t thank Mayor Megan Barry, along with the hotels, restaurants, attractions and our other hospitality industry partners, enough for their part in the city’s success. When visitors come, they spend money, and that generates economic activity for local businesses and tax revenue for the city.”
No word on how many of these visitors decided to move here after their visit, but it’s probably why I’m sitting in way more traffic. And why my rent is so high…
