Billie Joe Armstrong is selling a variety of his own guitars and amps through the Green Day Garage Sale, hosted by online music gear marketplace Reverb.
Among the guitars he’s selling is a 1960 Gibson Les Paul Special White, which he played during Green Day’s American Idiot tour in 2004, and a 1970s Martin D-41 Acoustic, which can be heard on “21 Guns.” Additionally, you can buy the Victoria tweed amp Armstrong used when recording the American Idiot title track.
“Used guitars, in particular, come with a history to them,” says Armstrong. “I love the character you can see looking at a fretboard that’s been used — you can see where someone played it in clubs, in barns, in churches.”
The Green Day Garage Sale will launch this Wednesday, December 20 at Reverb.com. Hopefully Billy Joe will be cutting some deals because average cost for the Gibson LP special is around 4K and the Martin runs a little over $5,000.00! In the videos below you can hear these axes in action.
