You and I both saw the Foo Fighters episode of Carpool Karaoke and validated our love for the band and their sense of humor. Well done. However, even though it looked like a brotherly love jam session, it was a little more “work” and a little less “play” than we thought.
Pat Smear said in an interview with NME, “By hour three in dude’s car, it got less fun. It kinda went on. When we stopped at Guitar Centre, that felt like we were done, but it was like ‘this is halfway’. Singing other people’s songs would have been easier.”
Dave Grohl added, “I could do that all day. We did The Ramones, and Rick Astley, but they didn’t use it. I don’t know why.”
They gave it to James Cordon that he is, in fact, a real music lover. They didn’t deny that. Dave added ,“Oh he definitely is, and he’s a very nice guy. But ya know, I don’t mind singing my own songs at Glastonbury or The O2 but if I had to sing you a song right now I’d be too embarrassed.”
It makes sense, right? Jamming in the car with your BFF to other peoples’ songs is a blast! But singing your own songs and ONLY your own songs in a car with somebody you don’t know while there’s a camera on you? A tad awkward. But nonetheless, we got a good laugh out of it.
