A lot of people may not know this, but St. Patrick’s Day in the U.S. is a completely different holiday than it is in Ireland. Whereas it has been a religious holiday for nearly 1,000 years in Ireland, the first St. Patrick’s Day parade was held in New York in 1762, and we have been celebrating it across the country ever since, usually as an excuse for crowds of drunk people to cling onto their 10% Irish heritage while abusing people that aren’t wearing green (‘Merica).
If you want to see an example of what actual Irish people think of what we’ve done to their holiday, check out this awesome interview taken from an Irish news show!
