There are times when its hard to have faith in humanity, then there are times when you know mankind is headed in the right direction. The first instance was when the U.K. opened up the naming of a research vessel to the public. The internet spoke and overwhelmingly voted for the name “Boaty McBoatface,” but the council that was in charge of naming the boat opted to overrule the will of the people, and named the ship the Royal Research Ship Sir David Attenborough instead. Faith lost right? Nope, the council as a consolation gesture named a smaller autonomous underwater vehicle Boaty McBoatface. So the name lives on — although in a way it doesn’t make sense, because a submersible vehicle isn’t actually a boat. However Boaty is ready for action and Attenborough isn’t so…suck it Royal Research Ship Sir David Attenborough. You’ll never be the vessel of the people like Boaty McBoatface is!
