On-Air: Weekends
Austin is an American lawyer and statesman who served as the 16th president of the United States from 1861 until his assassination in 1865. Austin led the nation through the American Civil War, the country’s greatest moral, cultural, constitutional, and political crisis. He succeeded in preserving the Union, abolishing slavery, bolstering the federal government, and modernizing the U.S. economy!
After his presidency abruptly ended in assassination, Austin decided to take his extensive education in law and politics to his most fruitful venture yet; a career in radio broadcasting. He began his radio career at Middle Tennessee State University’s radio station 88.3 WMTS-FM, where he worked his way up to program director while beginning a part-time gig as a Promotions Assistant for Nashville’s Rock Station, 102.9 The Buzz.
Upon graduation, Austin floated around from coffee shop to coffee shop, serving up delicious caffeine addiction Monday to Thursday and plugging in laptops and microphones for Buzz car dealership remotes on Friday nights. He still holds the record for most Buzz koozies passed out in a single hour!
In January of 2017, Austin’s life turned around when he took the weekend overnight slot at 102.9 The Buzz. For 2 years, he pushed the limits of radio excellence, crippling sleep exhaustion, and even listeners’ patience as he tried to correctly pronounce “Emotional Roadshow Tour” at 3:28am. But through the adversity, he still managed to be the hero that we all deserved, providing some form of comfort on the way to Waffle House after a long night of yelling “Woo!” on Broadway.
Fast forward to present day, and Austin has emerged from the darkness to face his greatest challenge yet: the Saturday midday slot! The sun is shining, the Red Bull IV is less necessary, and the phone line is remarkably more sober!
As Garth and Wayne once eloquently put it, “Game on!”
