Good ole last-minute shoppers are getting more and more desperate to find Eclipse glasses for Monday. So desperate, that they’re willing to buy a pair online for cheap. Little to they know, some of those peoples’ plans are backfiring when they find out that they’re not “legit” glasses.
According to Bloomberg, there’s a dude that tried making a quick buck by selling fake Eclipse glasses that will potentially damage peoples’ eyes. Craig Crosby of The Counterfeit Report says,
“Sellers of fake solar eclipse glasses have a unique opportunity to exploit the weaknesses of e-commerce websites in a short period of time. The problem is that anybody, anywhere, can sell just about anything on Amazon and eBay, including counterfeit glasses that may be dangerous. Buyers won’t discover their error until after the eclipse, or they suffer serious or permanent eye damage. The sellers will be long gone.”
Viewing glasses are becoming more and more scarce to find, but it’s better to be safe than sorry! Those 99-cent shades you found from a random eBay user aren’t worth the damage you could face! Read more from Bloomberg here.
