In 2005, Congress passed the Real ID Act. Now, 20 years later, the requirement has finally gone into effect. What does this mean? A regular driver’s license won’t be enough to board a domestic flight or enter certain government buildings. To obtain a Real ID, applicants need documents showing their full legal name, date of birth, social security number, lawful status, and two proofs of primary residence. If you do not have a Real ID, you can still use your passport to fly domestic. Flying soon? Visit TSA.gov for more information on acceptable identification. If you’re not sure if you have a Real ID, check with your state’s DMV. A driver’s license featuring a star typically means the ID meets the necessary requirements. (newser)
