If you tell them to name three songs and they can’t, maybe it’s not because they CAN’T, but they probably don’t want to either?
We came across this study done from CustomInk where they gathered 1,000 Americans’ perspectives of band’s merchandise. About half of the participants were millennials.
We’ve dropped plenty of money at the merch table at different concerts over the years, but we typically buy a t-shirt or some type of merch because we know and love the bands! But according to this study, nearly a third of the participants don’t think it’s necessary. Actually, over 30% of Americans apparently think you don’t need to know the band’s music to wear their merch.
Some other takeaways from the study…
- 34% of Americans said they own a t-shirt from a concert they’ve never attended.
- 10% of Americans said they own a t-shirt from an artist they’ve never listened to. (!!??)
- Music fans, on average, spend around $400 in concert merch in their lifetime.
