In April 2023 to coincide with the release of their album “72 Seasons”, Metallica announced a competition between marching bands called “For Whom The Bands Toll”. Over 450 high schools and Universities participated. The Division 1 University winner was Auburn University. The large high school division was won by Dobyns-Bennett in Kingsport, Tennessee. Both also won the fan favorites category. The winners were picked by Metallica.
In all, Dobyns-Bennett won $25,000 and will receive equipment and instruments for their program. Watch DB’s winning submission below.
