Who’s the guy on the cover of Led Zeppelin IV? We just found out, 52 years after the album’s release.
This notable album cover was apparently discovered by Robert Plant in an antique store while the album was being produced. It was colorized and hung on the wall of a semi-demolished building for the cover shoot.
A university researcher came to the conclusion that the picture was taken around 1892 by Ernest Howard Farmer, with the caption written, “A Wiltshire teacher.” According to Ultimate Classic Rock, “The roof mender was named Lot Long. When the shot was taken, Long – sometimes known as Longyear – was a widower living in the town of Mere.”
