Megaforce RecordsComedian and noted metal-head Brian Posehn combines his two passions on a new album called Grandpa Metal. The comedy metal record is stuffed with a variety of big name guests, including Slipknot‘s Corey Taylor, Patrick Stump and Joe Trohman of Fall Out Boy, Anthrax‘s Scott Ian, Slayer‘s Gary Holt and Soundgarden‘s Kim Thayil.
Stump sings on a song called “New Music Sucks,” which, as the title suggests, is all about the modern bands that annoy Posehn: sample lyric: “Imagine Dragons? Imagine me stabbing your face.”
At one point, Stump names his own band as an example of new music that sucks, which Posehn says was the Fall Out Boy vocalist’s own idea.
“I wrote these lyrics making fun of other bands,” Posehn tells ABC Audio. “But [Stump] throws Fall Out Boy under the bus — his own band — mid-song.”
Posehn adds that he’s currently working on a video for “New Music Sucks,” which he predicts will “get some young people hating me.”
“I go after every band,” he says.
Corey Taylor, meanwhile, lends his vocals to a metal cover of that 2013 viral Norwegian song “The Fox (What Does the Fox Say?)“, and Posehn says the Knot frontman was immediately up for it.
“He has such a great sense of humor, there was no question,” Posehn explains, adding that Taylor’s vocals are “so perfect.”
“It was exactly what you picture in your head of, ‘What’s Corey Taylor gonna sound like singing this ridiculous song?'” Posehn says. “He killed it, he took it seriously.“
