Remember back in the day of calling a radio station to request a song, and then hitting that Record button on your cassette player once the song comes on? That was probably the last time I even touched a cassette tape back in the early 2000’s, but there may be a lot more people than you think spinning cassette tapes. Surprising, with today’s highly digital age.
According to Pitchfork, cassette sales were up 35% in 2017. Last year in 2018, sales were up 23% thanks to artists like Twenty One Pilots after releasing their latest album Trench on cassette.
Like vinyl albums, for example. They may not be the most common form of playing music, but having a huge vinyl collection is super common. They’re timeless. Plus, they sound the best, in my opinion. So does this mean cassette tapes will slowly become a thing again? Will people start showing off their “cassette collections” soon?! Or… Will fans buy a cassette tape just for cool keepsake…
