CBS Sunday Morning featured Metallica recently to talk about the fact that yes, they are still touring and “melting faces” around the world but, offstage, they are also helping change lives through their “All Within My Hands” Foundation. The foundation is all about funding trade-school scholarships so kids can learn jobs like welding, electrical work, get their CDL’s and more, rather than simply power-chording in their garages.
“We all came from, I mean, pretty humble beginnings,” said bassist Robert Trujillo. “At a certain point you realize, like, hey, you know, we’re selling tickets, we’re doing well, the ship’s not sinking. What can we do to make people’s lives better?”
One student didn’t even realize Metallica was footing the bill until the check arrived, proving the band is now doing philanthropy in such a wholesome, genuine way, it’s practically unplugged.
