I hated that in school when we got homework over the weekend or holidays! Especially Christmas! “Hey, I wanna enjoy my new toys and watch TV..don’t give me homework!” Well, this lesson(as adults) you may want to try out for yourself this weekend. Some German scientists have concluded after a long study that beer makes you happy! The study, published in Journal Scientific Reports, found that beer contains a component called hordenine(fancy science word), which acts specifically on the dopamine D2 receptor(whatever that is), which is what makes us feel super happy. Basically beer triggers our reward sensors and makes us feel good. Go ahead, test it out for yourself this weekend. But be careful, this experiment can backfire like when you put baking soda in the volcano of vinegar. The D2 receptor is also the very same one that makes it hard to stop after one drink. Scientists call this I-can’t-stop-because-it-feels-too-good feeling ‘hedonic hunger,’ or the desire to eat for the sake of pleasure instead of eating to satisfy a biological need.
