Hometown: Flushing, MI. A small town just northwest of Flint.
What got you into radio? I’ve always loved music and have been going to see bands since I was 13. Originally I was going to go to school to be a sound engineer, but ended up just falling into radio. There was a local radio station that I listened to that I loved. I especially loved the midday and drive time jocks. You could tell they loved what they did and had fun with each other every time they cross talked. I used to see one of them a lot when I went to go see bands and one day I asked how he got into radio. He said that he went to broadcasting school, but if I was interested not to waste my money and just come intern with them. That guy was Tony Labrie. He ended up being my first Program Director at my first radio gig. That was over 18 years ago and I’ve been doing radio ever since. I’ve learned a lot from every PD I’ve ever worked with, but I definitely learned the most from Tony. He’s the best PD I’ve ever worked for.
When was your first drink? Probably a sip of beer that my Dad gave me.
Describe your most embarrassing moment: I can’t really think of anything. I DO get embarrassed, but it doesn’t have a huge affect on me.
Describe the worst date you’ve ever been on. There have been quite a few, but there was one where a guy brought his son, who was a toddler. It was either a lunch or dinner date… I can’t remember, but the guy proceeded to drink a few jack and cokes with his toddler in tow, which I thought wasn’t a great idea, then tipped the waiter like $2 on a $40/$50 tab. Completely unacceptable in general, but the waiter had gone out of his way for us. I think the kid had spilled something or the guy had requested something special for the kid or both and the waiter made it happen. At the end of the date after we walked out, I told the guy that I knew one of the cooks and was going to go back in and say hi. I went back in, found the waiter, gave him $10 and apologized for my date.
What’s your biggest pet peeve? Liars and bad tippers.
No cheating: Put your iPod on shuffle. What are the first three songs that come up? I don’t own an iPod, nor do I have any music on my phone. The sound quality sucks and I refuse to listen to music like that. I get that it’s convenient, but still… not my bag baby.
Has anyone ever told you that you look like a celebrity? Yes! I was at the theater to see X-Men2 and as I was walking to the theater I heard a lady in back of me say, “Ooooh, it’s Dr. Jean Grey” talking about me. Still one of the best compliments I’ve ever gotten.
If you could eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be? Does pizza count? I’m saying pizza.
If you won a million dollars, what’s the first thing you would buy? Can I buy 2 things? A house and a badass sports car. I’d need something with all wheel drive, so probably a Lambo. If I can get a Tesla with all wheel drive, I’d go that route. I can’t have a rear wheel drive with tons of HP. I’d kill myself.
Do you have any guilty pleasures? I don’t really believe in guilty pleasures. If you like something, you like it. No apologies.
Favorite sports team? Detroit Lions and Detroit Redwings.
Any tattoos or piercings? Several of both.
Pop, soda, or coke? Well, I grew up in Michigan, so it WAS pop. I’ve been out of MI for about 6 years now though first in PA, then here in TN, so now it’s soda.
What’s something people would be surprised to know about you? I love all kinds of music, not just rock and metal. People always seem surprised when I mention I like, for example, a country artist. I think good music is good music regardless of the genre. Although, I must admit the majority of shows I’ve been to and cd’s I own are rock and metal.
If you could see any band (living or dead) who would it be? Mother Love Bone
