Since Alexa has been your new BFF since Amazon Echo has been released, she’s also been quite controversial as well… Everything from creepily laughing out loud, to being accused of being “racist,” to, now, spying on you and sending your private conversations to people?
A woman in Portland said she was having a private conversation when Alexa unexpectedly recorded the conversation and sent it to an employee of her husband’s.
Amazon didn’t give her much of an explanation, except for:
“Echo woke up due to a word in background conversation sounding like “Alexa.” Then, the subsequent conversation was heard as a “send message” request. At which point, Alexa said out loud “To whom?” At which point, the background conversation was interpreted as a name in the customers contact list. Alexa then asked out loud, “[contact name], right?” Alexa then interpreted background conversation as “right”. As unlikely as this string of events is, we are evaluating options to make this case even less likely.” [The Verge]
She ain’t all bad… She WILL play 102.9 The Buzz if you ask her to. 😉
