No, you read that right!
An unofficial practice of the Houston Police Department has recently come to light; stealing Whataburger table markers and using them to mark off crime scenes.
Since for some odd reason the popular fast food chain hasn’t made its way to Tennessee yet, I’ll explain that Whataburger is a burger joint that started in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1950. And, as you can see in the picture to the left, the chain uses bright orange table markers, which adds to the “why” factor of the story.
According to HPD spokesperson Jodi Silva, “We got a lot of concerns as to whether Whataburger was endorsing us or whether we were endorsing Whataburger and whether they were a sponsor of the police department.”
It’s unclear just how many of the markers were stolen for use by the police, but the fact that the department had to recognize and denounce the practice completely blows my mind!
