Artificial wombs are being tested, and seem to be working!
It looks like an oversized ziplock bag holding an animal you would see in Biology class, but it is a whole lot more! Scientists are working on an artificial womb that could potentially help bring premature babies to term outside of a woman’s body. Right now it has only been tested on sheep, but the results are positive.
“Over four weeks, their lungs and brains grew, they sprouted wool, opened their eyes, wriggled around, and learned to swallow.” (theverge.com)
The Biobag, as it is being called, is promising for helping later term development, but it is not meant to host from an embryonic stage.
Science is so F’n cool!
