It was the wrong diagnosis…
I have to say this guy is probably more tolerant and understanding than I am… I have a feeling I would be upset!
Due to a misdiagnosis, a man in Portugal spent 43 years in a wheelchair, finally re-learning to walk while in his fifties. At age 13, he was diagnosed as having incurable muscular dystrophy. After four decades of getting around in a wheelchair, a neurologist discovered he actually suffered from a different disease that could be treated. After the new diagnosis and treatment, the man was walking again! The man, Rufino Borrego, doesn’t seem too upset about the misdiagnosis either…
“He insists he harbours no ill-feelings against the hospital that made the original diagnosis, acknowledging that myasthenia was almost unknown in the medical profession in the 1960s. ‘I just want to make use of my life,’ he said.” (wort.lu)
I hope he is able to!
