And not for the reason you would think. Or..maybe you would since its in California. Protesters took to the internet and caused such an uproar that Knotts Berry Farms staff decided it would be better to shut it down. What was the attraction? Fear VR-an immersive attraction built around a possessed girl named Katie that shows up at a medical facility. According to Pastor Rick Warren “the portrayal of a possessed girl in a hospital as part of a virtual-reality horror show stigmatizes and denigrates indiviuals with mental illness.” Knott’s staff said ” its evening attractions during Halloween are “designed to be edgy, and are aimed at an adult-only audience.” And also that “Contrary to some traditional and social media accounts, the attraction’s story and presentation were never intended to portray mental illness.” Warren said. “We wouldn’t use a person suffering from cancer or heart attack and leverage it to create a thrill ride. It glorifies stigma and exacerbates people’s pain.” NOOO-never heard of a burger joint called Heart Attack Grill! Oh California, why can you legalize medicinal marijuana but not haunted houses?! Don’t tell any sensitive souls from The Sunshine State about our haunted houses…
