The first part may be debate-able, but the the second part is completely true. For one night only, select theatres throughout the US will show the iconic comedy. If you are like most of the population, you didn’t get a chance to see it in theatres because you probably didn’t know it was in theatres. The movie execs at 20th Century Fox had a contractual obligation to release Mike Judge’s follow-up to Office Space, but they pretty much just tucked it away. After being sat on for more than a year, it initially opened in just seven cities, and with practically zero publicity—not even so much as a trailer. Since then it has gone on to gather Cult-like status and if you don’t know the phrase “Water..like out of the toilet?” you need help. Sad news is, unless you plan on making a trek to Texas, no theatres around here are showing it. You can still get in on the action though. Following the screening on October 4th, Mike Judge and Mia Rudolph will be answering questions live at at 8:25 p.m from the Santa Monica screening, which will be beamed out to all the other theaters and the internet through some kind of a magical device that only super-smart geniuses can understand. You can tweet your questions to Judge ahead of time using the hashtag #IdiocracyToday.
