Winner winner chicken dinner for Zep! Looks like they’re in the clear on this one.
It’s crazy to think that a song that was released 45 years ago (!!!!!!) is, to this day, on trial for plagiarism. Led Zeppelin was accused of copyright infringement and stealing the riff of Spirit’s 1968 track “Taurus.”
This case has been in the making for decades, and today, after week’s worth of testimony and arguments, the jury was in favor of Led Zeppelin.
According to Hollywood Reporter, Robert Plant and Jimmy Page said:
“We are grateful for the jury’s conscientious service and pleased that it has ruled in our favor, putting to rest questions about the origins of ‘Stairway to Heaven’ and confirming what we have known for 45 years. We appreciate our fans’ support, and look forward to putting this legal matter behind us.”
It gets pretty lengthy in detail, but Hollywood Reporter has the entire story covered here.
